About Jeddah and its timings

Jeddah is the Red Sea port that received pilgrims for centuries before air travel, and that role produced the visible mix of its population. Its old quarters still preserve the wooden roshan screens built to soften humid air. Its closeness to Makkah makes it the first point of ihram for many pilgrims arriving by air.

The city sits almost at sea level, and high humidity often blurs the horizon, so astronomical calculation reads more reliably here than visual observation.
