About Makkah and its timings
Makkah sits in a narrow valley ringed by the Sarawat mountains, and that valley is what first made it a caravan stop long before it became the direction of prayer for Muslims everywhere. The city grew in rings around the Sacred Mosque, so its roads all lead inward, something a visitor notices within minutes of arriving. Its moderate elevation and dry heat keep the difference between winter and summer prayer times gentler than in northern cities.
Times here act as a reference for others because the Qibla resolves to the city itself, and the gap between the longest and shortest day stays near one hour and forty minutes.
