Morning and evening azkar: timing, virtue and consistency
Remembrance is an act of both heart and tongue. This collection gathers what is established in the two Sahihs, the Sunan and Hisn al-Muslim, with vowelled Arabic, translation and a short meaning.
When morning and evening azkar are said
Most scholars hold that morning azkar run from dawn until the sun rises well above the horizon, and some extend that to midday. Evening azkar run from after Asr until sunset, and some extend that to the first third of the night. If you miss the window, say them when you remember rather than skipping them entirely.
How to actually keep them up
- Attach them to an existing habit: right after Fajr and right after Asr, so no separate reminder is needed.
- Start small: Ayat al-Kursi, the three protective surahs and Sayyid al-Istighfar are enough for the first week.
- Understand what you say: the translation next to each item turns recitation into presence of heart.
- Use the counter: for numbered remembrances use the digital tasbih.
