About Riyadh and its timings

Riyadh started as a walled town on two dry valleys in the heart of Najd, then became the largest city in the Arabian Peninsula in under a century. It expanded horizontally on a straight street grid, which is why daily life here leans on the car more than in any other Saudi city. Its desert climate is severe in summer, but the dry air keeps nights bearable and makes dawn unusually easy to read.

Riyadh sits toward the eastern edge of its time zone, so Maghrib arrives about forty minutes before Jeddah even though both share one official clock.
