About Delhi and its timings

Delhi is not one city but layers of capitals built and abandoned over eight centuries, which is why tombs and walls surface inside the modern fabric. Shah Jahan's Jama Masjid stands on a rise in the old city with a courtyard that holds thousands. Its open plain makes for fierce pre-monsoon heat, followed by a cold, foggy winter.

Indian clock time carries a half-hour offset, so Delhi's prayer times read on unfamiliar numbers for anyone arriving from the Gulf.
