About Meknes and its timings
Meknes is one of Morocco's imperial cities; Sultan Moulay Ismail made it his capital in the late seventeenth century and ringed it with long walls and monumental gates. Bab Mansour is the most famous of them, and the historic city is on the World Heritage list. It sits on a fertile plateau known for olives and vines, and its altitude of over five hundred metres makes its nights cooler than on the coast.
Meknes lies about sixty kilometres west of Fez, so its prayers run roughly two minutes behind Fez, and its altitude makes its winters cold.
