About Marseille and its timings

Marseille is France's oldest city, born as a Greek harbour on the Mediterranean, and the sea still organises its life. Its long ties with North Africa have given it a large Muslim community of Algerian, Tunisian, Moroccan and Comorian origin, spread across the northern districts and the old centre. Its southern position softens the gap between summer and winter days compared with northern France, so summer Isha stays at a reasonable hour.

Marseille lies about three degrees of longitude east of Paris on the same clock, so its prayers come roughly twelve minutes earlier, and its summer day is shorter because it sits further south.
