About Chicago and its timings

Chicago rose on Lake Michigan as a rail and grain junction in the middle of the continent, and that role explains the reach of its street grid. It is the birthplace of the skyscraper, yet its straight avenues leave the western horizon unusually visible compared with eastern cities. Its Muslim community is among the oldest organised in the United States, with the Bridgeview centre serving thousands of families.

Chicago sits at the western edge of its time zone, so Maghrib runs more than an hour later than New York on the official clock.
