About Nairobi and its timings
Nairobi is the highest of Africa's major capitals, begun as a stop on the Uganda railway and named from a Maasai phrase for cool water. Its altitude gives it a temperate climate unexpected for an equatorial city, with cool nights all year. The Jamia Mosque downtown is among its oldest Muslim landmarks, serving a Kenyan community rooted on both the coast and inland.
Nairobi is nearly on the equator at close to 1,800 metres, so its times hold steady and the horizon is clear thanks to the high plateau.
