About Istanbul and its timings
Istanbul is the only city spread across two continents, and the Bosphorus works less as a divide than as its main street given the daily ferry traffic. Two successive imperial capitals accumulated here, so Ottoman minarets and Byzantine domes share one skyline in the old city. Its northern latitude makes its prayer times among the most seasonally variable in the Muslim world.
The city follows the Diyanet convention, and at 41 degrees north the seasonal swing is wide: summer daylight approaches fifteen hours while winter drops below nine.
