About Beirut and its timings
Beirut sits on a sea headland with the Lebanon mountains rising behind it, and that squeeze produced its dense building on a narrow strip. Its archaeological layers stack in the downtown, where Roman remains sit between modern blocks and the mosque neighbours the cathedral. Because the mountains are so close, the temperature between the shore and the nearby heights differs by several degrees at the same hour.
Beirut faces west on the coast, so its sunset runs later than nearby Damascus despite the two sharing one clock.
