The Ibrahimi salutation is the wording the Prophet, peace be upon him, taught his companions when they asked how they should send blessings upon him. It is called Ibrahimi because Ibrahim, peace be upon him, is mentioned in it. This page carries its text and explanation; it is not a tool page.
First wording: al-Bukhari
The supplication
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
Second wording: Muslim
The supplication
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, his wives and his offspring, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim; and bless Muhammad, his wives and his offspring, as You blessed the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
Both are authentic. One may be said at one prayer and the other at another; neither is to be abandoned in favour of the other.

Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask blessings upon him and ask for peace upon him.Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask blessings upon him and ask for peace upon him.
When this verse was revealed the companions asked how they should do so, and the two wordings above were his answer.
The meaning of "as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim"
- Blessing from Allah: praise of him among the highest assembly, mercy and elevation, not like our own act of praying.
- The comparison: asking that Muhammad, peace be upon him, be granted the praise, elevation and blessing granted to Ibrahim, not that Ibrahim's rank is higher.
- The family of Muhammad: his household, wives and offspring, and some said his followers in faith; the first is clearer given Muslim's wording, which names the wives and offspring.
- Praiseworthy and Glorious: praised in every state and possessed of majesty, so He is the One asked for such a gift.

Forgetting it in the prayer
Whoever omits it in the final tashahhud and gives the salam has a valid prayer according to the majority, with no repetition required. Those who held it obligatory required the prostration of forgetfulness. Whoever remembers before the salam says it and then closes. In practice: forgetting it does not invalidate the prayer.

Where it is said outside the prayer
- On Friday: sending blessings upon him is encouraged in abundance.
- After the adhan: send blessings upon him, then ask for the intercession for him.
- Whenever he is mentioned: send blessings upon him each time his name is said.
- At the start and end of supplication: it is among the causes for a supplication being accepted.
- On entering and leaving the mosque: said with the words for entering and leaving.

Frequently asked
- Is there a fixed count? No obligatory count. Once in the tashahhud, and outside the prayer as much as one wishes. To keep a daily count use the tasbih.
- Is "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad" enough in the tashahhud? The complete taught wording is the fullest; whoever shortens has fulfilled the essence according to those who do not oblige the full text.
- Is it said in the funeral prayer? Yes, after the second takbir, then the deceased is prayed for at the third.
- Is it said aloud in unison? Raising it collectively as a fixed practice is not established; each person says it for himself.

- Memorise one wording in full tonight and use it in tomorrow's final tashahhud.
- Set a fixed daily count outside the prayer, track it on the tasbih, and increase it on Friday.
