The short answer: the Prophet ﷺ did not teach a specific dua for each round of tawaf. Only three things are established: saying Allahu akbar at the Black Stone, saying "Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina adhaban-nar" between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, and for the rest you ask for any good of this world and the next, in your own language.
This page belongs to the guide Umrah for Women, Step by Step and covers exactly what to say during tawaf.
What to say at the Black Stone
At the start of each round, when you line up with the Black Stone, touch it or point to it with your hand from a distance and say:
The supplication
The Prophet ﷺ, "whenever he came to the Corner, pointed to it with something he had and said Allahu akbar" (al-Bukhari 1613). Adding "Bismillah" is reported from Ibn Umar.
- Do not push to kiss the Stone; pointing with your hand is enough and the reward is complete.
- Do not kiss your hand after pointing if you did not touch the Stone.
The dua between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone
This is the only dua with fixed wording inside the round. Say it at the end of each round:
The supplication
Abdullah ibn al-Sa'ib said he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say between the two corners: "Our Lord, give us good in this world..." (Abu Dawud 1892, graded hasan by al-Albani).
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:201

Our Lord, give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Tawaf round counter
Tick each round as you finish it so you never lose count in the crowd. Your progress stays saved on your device.
Your steps
0 of 7
If you are unsure of the number, count the lower one, since that is the certain one.
Suggested duas for the seven rounds
These are not round-specific duas. They are authentic duas from the Quran and Sunnah you can use if nothing comes to mind. Reorder them or replace them freely.
| Round | Suggested dua | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | O Allah, I ask You for pardon and wellbeing in this world and the next | Abu Dawud 5074 |
| 2 | O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm on Your religion | at-Tirmidhi 2140 |
| 3 | O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity and self-sufficiency | Muslim 2721 |
| 4 | Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us we will be among the losers | al-A'raf 23 |
| 5 | O Allah, set right my religion, which is the safeguard of my affairs | Muslim 2720 |
| 6 | O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry, grief, weakness and laziness | al-Bukhari 6369 |
| 7 | Pray for your parents, family and anyone who asked you, then close with Rabbana atina | General Sunnah |
Is dua during tawaf answered? Tawaf is worship in the most honoured place, and dua there is among the most hopeful. Still, no authentic text names tawaf as a guaranteed time of acceptance. Pray often, with a present heart.
Sunnahs of tawaf for men
- Idtiba: uncovering the right shoulder, only in the arrival tawaf or Umrah tawaf.
- Raml: brisk short steps in the first three rounds (al-Bukhari 1603).
- Women do neither and simply walk normally.
The two rak'ahs after tawaf
After the seventh round, go behind Maqam Ibrahim if you can, otherwise anywhere in the mosque.
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:125

And take, O believers, from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer.
- First rak'ah after al-Fatihah: al-Kafirun.
- Second rak'ah: al-Ikhlas.
- This is from Jabir's long hadith describing the Prophet's Hajj (Muslim 1218).
Drinking Zamzam
Drink Zamzam after the two rak'ahs and ask for what you need. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Zamzam water is for whatever it is drunk for" (Ibn Majah 3062, graded sahih by al-Albani).
The supplication
This dua is established as a morning remembrance after Fajr (Ibn Majah 925). It is a good dua at Zamzam, but not one specific to Zamzam.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Correct practice |
|---|---|
| Reading a booklet of "dua for round one, round two..." | No round-specific dua is established; pray as you wish |
| Loud group chanting behind a guide | Each person prays quietly; tawaf is like prayer (at-Tirmidhi 960) |
| Kissing or pointing at the Yemeni Corner | Touch it by hand if easy, without kissing or pointing |
| Starting a round anywhere but the Black Stone | Each round starts and ends at the Black Stone |
| Pushing people to kiss the Stone | Pointing from a distance is enough |
What comes after tawaf?
The next step of Umrah is sa'i. Read the duas of sa'i between Safa and Marwah before you climb Safa. If you have not entered ihram yet, start with the Umrah intention, miqat dua and talbiyah. For the whole journey: the complete travel dua.
