Dua for leaving home
Say it as you step out of the door:
The supplication
"In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah." Abu Dawud (5095) and al-Tirmidhi (3426).
A second dua for leaving home:
The supplication
"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from going astray or being led astray, from slipping or being made to slip, from wronging or being wronged, and from acting foolishly or being treated foolishly." Abu Dawud (5094).
Dua for entering home
- Mention Allah as you enter, even just "Bismillah".
- Greet your family. If the house is empty, say: "Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah."
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that when a man mentions Allah on entering his home and at his meal, Satan says: "No place to stay and no dinner for you." Muslim (2018).
Dua for entering the masjid
Enter with your right foot and say:
The supplication
"O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy." Muslim (713). The seeking of refuge is in Abu Dawud (466).
The masjid is a place to worship Allah alone:
Surah Al-Jinn 72:18
Verified recitation
Dua for leaving the masjid
Step out with your left foot and say:
The supplication
"O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty." Muslim (713). Mercy when entering, provision when leaving.
Dua for entering the market
The supplication
al-Tirmidhi (3428). Scholars discussed its chain; some graded it acceptable.
