Similar passages in the Quran: Surah Al-Jinn

Similar passages (mutashabihat) are verses whose wording is close enough that a reciter slips from one place into another without noticing. These pages gather those sequences, ordered by how many places they occur in, so you meet them before they trip you.

The four sections

1. Ayah openings: verses that begin with the same words, the most common cause of jumping between verses.
2. Ayah endings: repeated closings, which lead a reciter into whatever follows the ending elsewhere.
3. Passages inside ayahs: repetition in the middle rather than at either edge, the subtlest kind.
4. Shared with other surahs: wording from this surah that recurs elsewhere in the Quran, the usual source of error when revising several surahs in one sitting.

A practical revision routine

• Start with the most repeated sequences: each one shows its number of occurrences.
• Open each occurrence and read the distinguishing word that follows the shared part. Memorisation settles on the difference, not on the shared wording.
• Attach a marker to every place: surah order, position on the page, or the meaning that precedes it.
• Recite one sequence across all its places in turn, then read each place in full context.

What this tool does not do

Extraction is automatic, comparing a temporary normalised copy of the verses while always displaying the Uthmani script. So a listed sequence may not actually confuse you, and similarity of meaning without similarity of wording will not appear. Once the wording is settled, reading the full surah with recitation helps, and ayah search reaches any wording by part of a word or by its root.
