Searching the Quran with or without diacritics
Searching Quranic text is not ordinary text search. The Uthmani script carries diacritics, recitation marks and distinct forms of alif and hamza that nobody types on a normal keyboard. The engine therefore normalises text before comparing.
What normalisation does
- Strips diacritics: fathah, dammah, kasrah, shaddah, sukun and tanwin.
- Unifies letter forms: the alif and hamza variants, ya and alif maqsurah, ta marbutah and ha.
- Removes recitation marks for pauses and prostrations.
- Matches against the simplified text while displaying the result in full Uthmani script.
So "al-Rahman al-Rahim" is found whether or not you type any vowel marks.
Tips for better results
- Search a fragment when you cannot recall the whole word; partial matches are supported.
- Very common short words return many hits, so add a second word to narrow the set.
- To search meanings in English, use the English interface to search the translation.
- Each result links straight to the verse in the surah page with the verse highlighted.
